This study aims to determine the problems experienced by teachers during Covid-19 pandemic in which teachers must conduct online learning. This research is a descriptive study using online survey method. The data was collected using online questionnaires to 64 respondents of elementary school teachers. It was found that 98% of the primary school teachers respondents has conducted online learning during Covid-19 pandemic, and 1 teacher did not use online model. The information obtained is that 100% of the teacher is doing online model (in the network) learning. More than 9 medias used by elementary school teachers in Bantul district during the pandemic were offered namely WhatsApps, WhatsApp Web, Google Classroom, Google Group, TeamLink, Microsoft Teams, Kaizala Microsoft, Zoom Meeting & Webinar, Youtube, Google Hangouts, and others. 100% of teachers or as many as 64 teachers are learning with WhatsApps application as the first choice. Furthermore, 15% of teachers use some application supporters of WhatsApp. Google Class is the second option. The third option is Google form as much as 12% or 8 teachers. The use of Google Form is for students’ worksheets. The fourth choice is YouTube with as many as 7% or 5 teachers. Short videos related to the material being taught in 10-20 minutes. The fifth application is the Zoom Cloud Meeting for only 3% or 2 teachers who chose this platform.
Abstract Systematic assessments of species extinction risk at regular intervals are necessary for informing conservation action 1,2 . Ongoing developments in taxonomy, threatening processes and research further underscore the need for reassessment 3,4 . Here we report the findings of the second Global Amphibian Assessment, evaluating 8,011 species for the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species. We find that amphibians are the most threatened vertebrate class (40.7% of species are globally threatened). The updated Red List Index shows that the status of amphibians is deteriorating globally, particularly for salamanders and in the Neotropics. Disease and habitat loss drove 91% of status deteriorations between 1980 and 2004. Ongoing and projected climate change effects are now of increasing concern, driving 39% of status deteriorations since 2004, followed by habitat loss (37%). Although signs of species recoveries incentivize immediate conservation action, scaled-up investment is urgently needed to reverse the current trends.
Abstract Glacier outlines are mapped for the upper Bhagirathi and Saraswati/Alaknanda basins of the Garhwal Himalaya using Corona and Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) satellite images acquired in 1968 and 2006, respectively. A subset of glaciers was also mapped using Landsat TM images acquired in 1990. Glacier area decreased from 599.9 ± 15.6 km2(1968) to 572.5 ± 18.0 km2(2006), a loss of 4.6 ± 2.8%. Glaciers in the Saraswati/Alaknanda basin and upper Bhagirathi basin lost 18.4 ± 9.0 km2(5.7 ± 2.7%) and 9.0 ± 7.7 km2(3.3 ± 2.8%), respectively, from 1968 to 2006. Garhwal Himalayan glacier retreat rates are lower than previously reported. More recently (1990–2006), recession rates have increased. The number of glaciers in the study region increased from 82 in 1968 to 88 in 2006 due to fragmentation of glaciers. Smaller glaciers (<1 km2) lost 19.4 ± 2.5% (0.51 ± 0.07% a−1) of their ice, significantly more than for larger glaciers (>50 km2) which lost 2.8 ± 2.7% (0.074 ± 0.071 % a−1). From 1968 to 2006, the debris-covered glacier area increased by 17.8 ± 3.1% (0.46 ± 0.08% a−1) in the Saraswati/Alaknanda basin and 11.8 ± 3.0% (0.31 ± 0.08% a−1) in the upper Bhagirathi basin. Climate records from Mukhim (∼1900 m a.s.l.) and Bhojbasa (∼3780 m a.s.l.) meteorological stations were used to analyze climate conditions and trends, but the data are too limited to make firm conclusions regarding glacier–climate interactions.
Nanosystems such as microemulsions (ME) and nanoemulsions (NE) offer considerable opportunities for targeted drug delivery to and via the skin. ME and NE are stable colloidal systems composed of oil and water, stabilised by a mixture of surfactants and cosurfactants, that have received particular interest as topical skin delivery systems. There is considerable scope to manipulate the formulation components and characteristics to achieve optimal bioavailability and minimal skin irritancy. This includes the incorporation of established chemical penetration enhancers to fluidize the stratum corneum lipid bilayers, thus reducing the primary skin barrier and increasing permeation. This review discusses nanosystems with utility in skin delivery and focuses on the composition and characterization of ME and NE for topical and transdermal delivery. The mechanism of skin delivery across the stratum corneum and via hair follicles is reviewed with particular focus on the influence of formulation.
Weather forecasting has gained attention many researchers from various research communities due to its effect to the global human life. The emerging deep learning techniques in the last decade coupled and the wide availability of massive weather observation data have motivated many researches to explore hidden hierarchical pattern in the large volume of weather dataset for weather forecasting. The purposes of this research are to build a robust and adaptive statistical model for forecasting univariate weather variable in Indonesian airport area and to explore the effect of intermediate weather variable related to accuracy prediction using single layer Long Short Memory Model (LSTM) model and multi layers LSTM model. The proposed forecasting model is an extension of LSTM model by adding intermediate variable signal into LSTM memory block. The premise is that two highly related patterns in input dataset will rectify the input patterns so make it easier for the model to learn and recognize the pattern from the training dataset. In an effort to achieve a robust model for learning and recognizing weather pattern, this research will also explore various architectures such as single layer LSTM and Multiple Layer LSTM (4 layers LSTM). The dataset is weather variable data collected by Weather Underground at Hang Nadim Indonesia airport. This research used visibility as predicted data and temperature, pressure, humidity, dew point as intermediates data. The best model of LSTM in this experiment is multiple layers LSTM and the best intermediate data is pressure variable. Using the pressure variable this model has gained the validation accuracy 0.8060 and RMSE 0.0775.
BACKGROUND: Self medication with antibiotics has become an important factor driving antibiotic resistance. This study investigated the period prevalence, patterns of use, and socio-demographic factors associated with self medication with antibiotics in Yogyakarta City Indonesia. This cross-sectional population-based survey used a pre-tested questionnaire which was self-administered to randomly selected respondents (over 18 years old) in Yogyakarta City Indonesia in 2010 (N = 625). Descriptive statistics, chi-square and logistic regression were applied. RESULTS: A total of 559 questionnaires were analyzed (response rate = 90%). The period prevalence of self medication with antibiotics during the month prior to the study was 7.3%. Amoxicillin was the most popular (77%) antibiotic for self medication besides ampicilline, fradiomisin-gramisidin, tetracycline, and ciprofloxacin to treat the following symptoms: the common-cold including cough and sore throat, headache, and other minor symptoms; with the length of use was mostly less than five days. Doctors or pharmacists were the most common source of information about antibiotics for self medication (52%). Antibiotics were usually purchased without prescription in pharmacies (64%) and the cost of the purchases was commonly less than US $1 (30%). Previous experience was reported to be the main reason for using non-prescribed antibiotics (54%). There were no socio-demographic variables significantly associated with the actual practice of using non-prescribed antibiotics. However, gender, health insurance, and marital status were significantly associated with the intent to self medicate with antibiotics (P < 0.05). Being male (Odds Ratio = 1.7 (1.2 - 2.6)) and having no health insurance (Odds Ratio = 1.5 (1.0 -2.3)) is associated with the intent to self medicate with antibiotics. CONCLUSIONS: This study is the first population-based study of self-medication with antibiotics among the Indonesian population. Usage of non-prescribed antibiotics as well as intent of doing so is common across socio-demographic categories. Given the findings, factors influencing people's intentions to self medicate with antibiotics are required to be investigated to better understand such behavior. Impact of health insurance coverage on self medication with antibiotics should also be further investigated.
Recent developments in natural language processing have led to the creation of large language models, such as ChatGPT, which could generate human-like text. In this paper, we explore the potential implications of ChatGPT for language learning in higher education. We first provide an overview of ChatGPT and discuss its capabilities and limitations. For instance, ChatGPT can generate coherent and fluent text on various topics but may have difficulties comprehending more complex or abstract ideas. We then consider how ChatGPT could be integrated into language courses and programs in higher education and the potential benefits and challenges of doing so. For example, ChatGPT could provide personalised language instruction or generate authentic language material for learners to engage with. However, using ChatGPT in language learning may also raise concerns about the potential substitution of human language teachers and the ethical implications of using a machine learning system to generate text. Finally, we offer suggestions for future research on using ChatGPT in language learning in higher education, such as studying the effectiveness of ChatGPT-assisted language instruction and exploring the pedagogical implications of using large language models in the language classroom.
In this article, we test the hypothesis that beliefs about the ideal mother are convergent across cultures and that these beliefs overlap considerably with attachment theory’s notion of the sensitive mother. In a sample including 26 cultural groups from 15 countries around the globe, 751 mothers sorted the Maternal Behavior Q-Set to reflect their ideas about the ideal mother. The results show strong convergence between maternal beliefs about the ideal mother and attachment theory’s description of the sensitive mother across groups. Cultural group membership significantly predicted variations in maternal sensitivity belief scores, but this effect was substantially accounted for by group variations in socio-demographic factors. Mothers living in rural versus urban areas, with a low family income, and with more children, were less likely to describe the ideal mother as highly sensitive. Cultural group membership did remain a significant predictor of variations in maternal sensitivity belief scores above and beyond socio-demographic predictors. The findings are discussed in terms of the universal and culture-specific aspects of the sensitivity construct.
Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kendala yang dialami guru SD dalam mengimplementasikan Kurikulum 2013. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 65 guru SD di Yayasan Kanisius Cabang Jawa Tengah dan Yogyakarta. Data dikumpulkan dengan instrumen angket dan wawancara. Keabsahan data diperoleh dengan menggunakan trianggulasi teknik pengumpulan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kendala-kendala yang dialami guru SD dalam implementasi kurikulum 2013 berasal dari pemerintah, institusi, guru, orang tua, dan siswa. Kendala dari pemerintah meliputi pendistribusian buku, penilaian, administrasi guru, alokasi waktu, sosialisasi, pelaksanaan pembelajaran tematik, panduan pelaksanaan kurikulum, dan kegiatan pembelajaran dalam buku siswa. Kendala dari institusi meliputi sarana dan prasarana, dan rotasi guru baik vertikal dan horisontal. Kendala dari guru meliputi pembuatan media pembelajaran, pemahaman guru, pemaduan antarmuatan pelajaran dalam pembelajaran tematik, dan penguasan teknologi informasi. Kendala dari orang tua dan siswa meliputi rapor dan adaptasi terhadap pembelajaran tematik. Kata Kunci: kurikulum 2013, kendala implementasi THE CONSTRAINTS OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE 2013 CURRICULUM Abstract: This study was aimed to describe the constraints of elementary school teachers in the implementation of the 2013 curriculum. This study was descriptive research. The subjects were 65 teachers in Central Java and Yogyakarta under the Kanisius Foundation. The data were collected using questionnaires and interviews. The validity of the data was obtained through the method triangulation. The data were analyzed using the descriptive analysis technique. The findings showed that the constraints in the 2013 curriculum impementation stemmed from the government, institution, teachers, parents, and students. The constraints from the government included the book distribution, assessment, teachers’ administration, time allocation, socialisation, thematic teaching implementation, guidance of the curriculum implementation, and learning activities in students’ books. The constraints from the institution included the facilities and teacher rotation, both vertically and horizontally. The constraints from the teachers included the development of teaching media, teachers’ understanding, the integration of content from different subjects in the thematic teaching, and the IT literacy. BACKGROUND: Misconceptions about antibiotic use among community members potentially lead to inappropriate use of antibiotics in the community. This population-based study was aimed at examining common knowledge and beliefs about antibiotic use of people in an urban area of Indonesia. METHODS: The population of the study was adults (over 18 years old) in Yogyakarta City. A cluster random sampling technique was applied (N = 640). Data were collected using a pre-tested questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlation. RESULTS: A total of 625 respondents was approached and 559 respondents completed the questionnaire (90% response rate). Out of 559 respondents, 283 (51%) are familiar with antibiotics. Out of 283 respondents who are familiar with antibiotics, more than half have appropriate knowledge regarding antibiotic resistance (85%), allergic reactions (70%), and their effectiveness for bacterial infections (76%). Half these respondents know that antibiotics ought not to be used immediately for fever (50%). More than half have incorrect knowledge regarding antibiotics for viral infections (71%). More than half believe that antibiotics can prevent illnesses from becoming worse (74%). Fewer than half believe that antibiotics have no side effects (24%), that antibiotics can cure any disease (40%), and that antibiotic powders poured onto the skin can quickly cure injuries (37%). Those who are uncertain with these beliefs ranged from 25% to 40%. Generally, these respondents have moderate knowledge; where the median is 3 with a range of 0 to 5 (out of a potential maximum of 5). Median of scores of beliefs is 13 (4 to 19; potential range: 4 to 20). The results of correlation analysis show that those with appropriate knowledge regarding antibiotics would also quite likely have more appropriate beliefs regarding antibiotics. The correlation is highest for those who are male, young participants, with higher education levels, and have a higher income level. CONCLUSIONS: Misconceptions regarding antibiotic use exist among people in this study. Therefore, improving appropriate knowledge regarding antibiotic use is required.
Thermodynamical, optical, dielectric and electro-optical characterisation of nematic liquid crystals (LCs) and silver nanoparticle (NP) composites have been carried out. Transition temperatures of pure and composites systems have been measured. Thermodynamical studies suggest increase of clearing temperature of the composite material as compared to the pure material. Threshold voltage for switching from bright to dark state and splay elastic constant of the pure and composite materials have been determined. From frequency dependence of dielectric measurements, permittivity, loss, relaxation frequency and dielectric strength of flip-flop mechanism of LC molecules in the nematic phase have been calculated. Dielectric properties of composites have been explained in reference of Maier and Meier theory. The effects of doping of NPs on dielectric and electro-optic properties of LC-NP composites have been discussed.
Online learning has been widely applied due to developments in information technology. However, there are fewer relevant evaluations and applications for primary school students. All innovation efforts in learning are directed at improving the quality of education by creating an active learning atmosphere for students. Students’ participation in the teaching-learning process can be improved by selecting appropriate learning materials suitable to the student’s learning style. The research aims to develop and measure the impact of an Artificial-Intelligence (AI)-based learning style prediction model in an online learning portal for primary school students. The subjects were recruited from Indonesian primary school students in grades 4 to 6. To fulfill the principle of personalized learning, the AI model in the online learning portal was designed to recommend learning materials that suit students’ learning styles. We formulated a new AI approach that enables collaborative filtering-based AI models to be driven by learning style prediction. With this AI algorithm, the online learning portal can provide material recommendations tailored specifically to the learning style of each student. The AI model performance test achieved satisfactory results, with an average RMSE (Root Mean Squared Error) of 0.9035 from a rating scale of 1 to 5. Moreover, students’ learning performance was improved based on the results of t-test analysis on 269 subjects between the pre-test and post-test scores.
Liposomes are a delivery system used in pharmaceutical products and cosmetics. Liposomes have many advantages such as increase stability and efficacy, can be targeted to reduce toxicity and increase accumulation at the target site and are biocompatible. Preparation of liposomes can be done by conventional or new methods which are still being developed. Conventional methods often require a long time and organic solvents which may be toxic. Heating (Mozafari method) is one of the new methods developed in the manufacture of liposomes without organic solvents. Mixing temperature can affect the physical properties of liposomes. The particle size has become one of the important physical properties because it affects the absorption of the drug. Sonication is an easy method of choice in reducing the size of liposomes. Optimization of mixing temperature and duration of sonication in liposomes' preparation using new heating methods and sonication were performed by factorial design with 2 factors and 3-levels to obtain optimal liposome size. Data were analyzed with two-way ANOVA. The results showed that both mixing temperature and sonication duration significantly affect liposome size, but the interaction was not statistically significant. Data analysis also showed that mixing temperature, sonication, and their interaction do not affect the polydispersity index of liposome. Results showed the optimum mixing temperature and sonication duration that can produce liposomes with size below 100 nm is at 60C for 30 minutes.
It is well acknowledged that human immunodeficiency virus stigma (HIV stigma) challenges people living with HIV globally. There is a scarcity of information about determinants of HIV stigma and discrimination among married men in the Indonesian context. This study aimed to explore factors that contribute to stigma and discrimination against HIV-positive men married to women in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Face-to-face in-depth interviews were conducted to collect data from participants using a snowball sampling technique. A framework analysis was used to guide the analysis of the data. HIV stigma framework was also applied in the conceptualisation and the discussion of the findings. The findings indicate that participants experienced external stigma within healthcare facilities, communities and families. This external stigma was expressed in various discriminatory attitudes and behaviours by healthcare professionals and community and family members. Similarly, participants experienced anticipated stigma as a result of HIV stigma and discrimination experienced by other people living with HIV. Individual moral judgement associating HIV status with amoral behaviours and participants' negative self-judgement were determinants of perceived stigma. The current findings indicate the need for training programs about HIV stigma issues for healthcare professionals. There is also a need to disseminate HIV information and to improve HIV stigma knowledge among families and communities.
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan modul ajar berbantuan teknologi yang valid, praktis, dan efektif untuk mengembangkan kecakapan abad 21 siswa pada materi lingkaran. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah penelitian dan pengembangan. Proses pengembangan modul dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan model pengembangan ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Tahap analisis meliputi analisis kebutuhan sumber belajar, kurikulum dan materi. Tahap perancangan meliputi pembuatan kerangka modul, penentuan tata letak dan buku referensi, serta penyusunan instrumen penilaian modul. Tahap pengembangan meliputi pengembangan modul, validasi ahli, dan revisi modul. Tahap implementasi adalah tahap uji coba modul yang telah divalidasi dan direvisi kepada siswa. Tahap evaluasi adalah tahap menganalisis kelebihan dan kelemahan modul yang telah diujicobakan. Kualitas modul ditentukan oleh tiga kriteria yaitu validitas, kepraktisan dan keefektifan. Modul ini dinyatakan valid berdasarkan penilaian dari ahli materi dengan rata-rata sebesar 87% dan penilaian dari ahli media dengan rata-rata sebesar 83%. Selain itu modul dinyatakan praktis berdasarkan hasil kuesioner respon siswa, yaitu dengan rata-rata sebesar 74%. Selanjutnya berdasarkan hasil wawancara dengan guru, modul ini efektif membantu siswa memahami materi lingkaran khususnya topik persamaan lingkaran dan memiliki potensi untuk meningkatkan kecakapan abad 21. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa modul ajar cetak berbantuan teknologi yang dikembangkan valid, praktis, dan efektif. AbstractThis research aims to develop a valid, practical, and effective technology-enhanced module in developing students’ 21st century skills in the topic of the circle. The present study employed a research and development method, namely the ADDIE model. The analysis phase includes an analysis of the needs of learning resources, curriculum, and materials. The design phase consisted of making modules, setting the layout, and searching reference books as well as designing assessment instruments. The development phase includes module development, expert validation, and module revision. The implementation phase produced a trial module for students that has been validated and revised. The evaluation phase is an evaluation of the module’s strengths and weaknesses that have been tested. Module’s quality is determined by three criteria, namely validity, practicality, and effectiveness. This module was rated as valid from material experts with an average of 87% and from media experts with an average of 83%. In addition, this module was rated as practical based on the responses of respondents with an average of 74%. Furthermore, based on the results of interviews with teachers, this module helps students understanding the circle and potentially can improve students’ 21st century skills. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the technology-enhanced module is valid, practical, and effective.
The annual number of cancer deaths continues increasing every day; thus, it is urgent to search for and find active, selective, and efficient anticancer drugs as soon as possible. Among the available anticancer drugs, almost all of them contain heterocyclic moiety in their chemical structure. Xanthone is a heterocyclic compound with a dibenzo-γ-pyrone framework and well-known to have "privileged structures" for anticancer activities against several cancer cell lines. The wide anticancer activity of xanthones is produced by caspase activation, RNA binding, DNA cross-linking, as well as P-gp, kinase, aromatase, and topoisomerase inhibition. This anticancer activity depends on the type, number, and position of the attached functional groups in the xanthone skeleton. This review discusses the recent advances in the anticancer activity of xanthone derivatives, both from natural products isolation and synthesis methods, as the anticancer agent through in vitro, in vivo, and clinical assays.
The nation of Indonesia is in an area of geological instability, resulting in repeated and severe natural disasters including earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis. Teachers, as adult authority figures and people with whom students spend a majority of their day, can play a major role in the lives of children in a disaster-prone community. Four years after a 6.3 magnitude earthquake that devastated a primarily rural community in Central Java, we studied 43 elementary school teachers from six primary schools who are responsible for educating hundreds of students annually. First, we examined the relationship between post-earthquake distress and teacher beliefs about efficacy and teacher-reported classroom behavior. Second, we designed a brief psychosocial skills-based intervention to reduce teacher distress and support their capacity to reduce student distress and improve student achievement. Finally, we assessed the impact of this intervention on reducing teacher distress and on improving student behavior and school performance over time. Analyses revealed a significant relationship between teachers’ depression and self-reported negative classroom behavior, a significant relationship between teachers’ posttraumatic distress and general beliefs about teacher efficacy, and a significant drop in depression and posttraumatic stress symptoms from before to after the intervention. This research extends a growing body of research on the potential role of teachers in assisting students in coping with chronic stress in their community. Lessons learned from this program of research can inform schools, school personnel, and long-term community intervention efforts following disasters across the world.
Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) is a global health emergency and the matter of serious concern, which has been declared a pandemic by WHO. Till date, no potential medicine/ drug is available to cure the infected persons from SARS-CoV-2. This deadly virus is named as novel 2019-nCoV coronavirus and caused coronavirus disease, that is, COVID-19. The first case of SARS-CoV-2 infection in human was confirmed in the Wuhan city of the China. COVID-19 is an infectious disease and spread from man to man as well as surface to man . In the present work, in silico approach was followed to find potential molecule to control this infection. Authors have screened more than one million molecules available in the ZINC database and taken the best two compounds based on binding energy score. These lead molecules were further studied through docking against the main protease of SARS-CoV-2. Then, molecular dynamics simulations of the main protease with and without screened compounds were performed at room temperature to determine the thermodynamic parameters to understand the inhibition. Further, molecular dynamics simulations at different temperatures were performed to understand the efficiency of the inhibition of the main protease in the presence of the screened compounds. Change in energy for the formation of the complexes between the main protease of novel coronavirus and ZINC20601870 as well ZINC00793735 at room temperature was determined on applying MM-GBSA calculations. Docking and molecular dynamics simulations showed their antiviral potential and may inhibit viral replication experimentally. Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma
Polyaniline–graphene hybrid films exhibit reflection dominated EMI shielding in a broad microwave frequency range.
Combination therapy of antibiotics and nanoparticles can be used against multi drug resistant microorganisms. Nanoparticles (NPs) have been reported to show antimicrobial activity. The antimicrobial activities of doped ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were studied against fungi, gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria using the standard microdilution method. The interaction between the nanoparticle and the antibiotic was estimated by calculating the fractional inhibitory concentration (FIC index) of the combination through checkerboard assay. Experimental results demonstrated that 10% doped zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) exhibited the maximum antimicrobial effect in contrast with that of the 1% loading and pure ZnO nanoparticles. The enhancement in antimicrobial effect was seen when combined with antibiotic. Synergistic and additive effects were found. No antagonistic effect was found. More synergistic effect was observed when combined with ciprofloxacin than ampicillin. Fungus showed only additive effect. The results are quite in terms with MIC clearly depicting that high doping agent is most suitable for combined therapy. 100% synergistic interaction was observed in higher doping with both ciprofloxacin and ampicillin. This study provides a preliminary report of the synergistic activity of nanoparticles with antibiotics against different pathogenic strains. This provides groundwork for further studies on the combination therapy of nanoparticles with antibiotics.
