2018· Journal of Baltic Science Education126doi:10.33225/jbse/18.17.300

Critical thinking skills are one of the 21st century skills that are effectively trained by using the OR-IPA and Problem Based Learning (PBL) Model, therefore this research aims to compare the effectiveness of both. Research design used True Experiment with Randomized Subject Control-group Pre-test and Post-test with 94 pre-service physics teachers. Data collected using the critical thinking skills test and the student response sheet, and then analyzed using t-test and N-gain. The results showed: (1) the teaching instruments of OR-IPA and PBL Model have fulfilled the validity requirements (rα ~ .26) and reliability (α = .96 - .99). (2) Each of OR-IPA, PBL, and Conventional Model can significantly increase critical thinking skills at α = 5%, respectively with average N-gain: medium (.60), medium (.48), and low (.14); with the student response of: very positive, very positive, and less positive. (3) The OR-IPA and PBL Model are effective to improve critical thinking skills, while the Conventional Model is ineffective, and the OR-IPA Model is more effective compared to the PBL Model. Implication of this research is that the OR-IPA Model can be an innovative solution to improve critical thinking skills, but there is still a need for repetitive research like this. Keywords: basic physics, critical thinking skills, OR-IPA model, pre-service physics teachers, and PBL model.

2020· Turkish Online Journal of Distance Education121doi:10.17718/tojde.770928

This study aimed to analyze student satisfaction and engagement effect in online learning which are influenced by student interaction. We use the concept of interaction which is divided into three types of interactions, namely student interactions with other students, student interactions with tutors/teachers, and student interactions with content. We conducted this research in an open and distance learning university in Indonesia. To answer the research goals, we applied a quantitative research approach utilizing structural equation modelling to verify our proposed hypotheses. To gain the data, we exploit an online survey through a questionnaire and the data were being collected randomly. The population of this study was all students in Faculty of Economics who registered in online learning at the first semester of 2018 that reach as many as 124,041 students. We attached the questionnaires in all online classes and 4,305 of them were completed and could be used for statistical analysis. We proposed four hypotheses and based on the result of structural modelling, we verified that all the hypotheses were supported. The statistical analysis has found that interaction among students, interaction between students and teacher, and interaction between students and content have positive impact on student engagement. The results also showed that student engagement has positive impact on student satisfaction. We discuss the practical implication and suggestion for future research in the results and discussion section.

MERESPON NALAR KEBIJAKAN NEGARA DALAM MENANGANI PANDEMI COVID 19 DI INDONESIA
Zulfa Harirah, Annas Rizaldi
2020· Jurnal Ekonomi dan Kebijakan Publik Indonesia107doi:10.24815/ekapi.v7i1.17370

This paper departs from anxiety about the spread of the Covid 19 virus in Indonesia which is increasing significantly. The government as the main actor in policy making is required to produce policies that are able to reduce and solve covid 19 problems in Indonesia, including the impacts. But the policy will have no meaning if it does not get a response from the recipient of the policy. Therefore this paper is intended to track how the public responds to the reasoning of state policies in dealing with the Covid 19 virus in Indonesia. Through the literature study method, this paper is presented based on the results of readings in journals, books, mass media news to obtain comprehensive results. The rational choice approach to policy making is used as a knife for analysis to sharpen arguments. The results of this paper conclude that the policies taken by the government show rational reasoning. This logical logic of health emergencies can be accepted rationally by the community. However, there was a different response by some people, especially the middle to lower classes. This is caused by social vulnerability caused by limited resources so that it is "forced" to break through the reasoning of the country's rationality in the policy of handling the co-epidemic pandemic19 in Indonesia. The key to its solution is the country's ability to guarantee the economic security of every family. So that the rationality of the state and society will be the same in the face of the Covid 19 pandemic

2007· The International Review of Research in Open and Distributed Learning79doi:10.19173/irrodl.v8i1.340

Quality assurance for distance higher education is one of the main concerns among institutions and stakeholders today. This paper examines the experiences of Universitas Terbuka (UT), which has initiated and implemented an innovative strategy of quality assurance (QA) for continuous improvement. The credo of the UT quality assurance system is "We write what we do. We do what we write. We check. We improve continuously!" Implementing a quality management system at the UT, a mega-university with a student body of more than a quarter of a million and which involved a network of participating institutions and regional centres, was a formidable task to accomplish. To achieve its lofty goal, UT adopted and contextualised the draft of the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) QA Framework to launch its own quality assurance program. This has taken a great deal of commitment and participation of all staff involved. QA at the UT required systematic and step-by-step processes, including development of the QA framework and job manuals, raising awareness and commitment amongst all staff involved, internal assessment, and integration of QA programs into the university's annual action plans, external assessment and benchmarking. This paper concludes that quality assurance must be developed as institutional policy and strategy for continuous improvement.

With the phenomenal expansion of distance education in Asia during the past three decades, there has been growing public demand for quality and accountability in distance education. This study investigates the national quality assurance systems for distance education at the higher education level in Asia with the aim of contributing to a better understanding of the current level of development of quality assurance in Asian distance education and to offer potential directions for policy makers when developing and elaborating quality assurance systems for distance education. The analysis of the existing quality assurance frameworks in the 11 countries/territories selected reveals that the level of quality assurance policy integration in the overall national quality assurance in higher education policy framework varies considerably. The purpose of quality assurance, policy frameworks, methods, and instruments in place are generally tailored to each country’s particular circumstances. There are, however, obvious commonalities that underpin these different quality assurance efforts.

Aminudin Zuhaırı, Maria Rowena Raymundo, Kamran Mir
2020· AAOU Journal/AAOU journal69doi:10.1108/aaouj-05-2020-0034

Purpose Quality assurance (QA) in open and distance learning (ODL) has always become universal concerns of stakeholders. The quality of ODL has been confronted with challenges in terms of the diversity of inputs, processes, the complex supply chain management of ODL and recent paradigm shift into online learning. Assuring the quality of ODL are daunting tasks at individual, institution and system levels. Completed before the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, this study aims to better understand the implementation of QA system in three Asian open universities (OUs), namely University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), Universitas Terbuka (UT), Indonesia and Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Pakistan. Design/methodology/approach A qualitative method was employed involving analysis of documents of the three Asian OUs and focus group discussions and interviews with management and staff. Data collected were then analyzed to draw conclusions and possible recommendations. Findings Findings of this study presented good practices, challenges and rooms for improvement of the QA system in the three Asian OUs. Focusing on students and stakeholders in their QA effort, this study has revealed that quality begins with inner self and is multidimensional. QA is principally viewed as continuous improvement, as mechanism and assessment and as effort at exceeding expectations of students and stakeholders. The recent challenge for QA is to embrace a delicate process of ODL transformation into online digital system. The recent COVID-19 outbreak has further implications and challenged QA implementation in ODL in higher education into the next level of complexity. Practical implications This study revealed the diversities in how OUs met the societal needs of their respective stakeholders and addressed the challenges ahead for QA in ODL. Originality/value These findings were expected to enhance the understanding of the theory and practice of QA in ODL and to contribute to quality improvement of ODL programs.

This study analyzes the performance of the Indonesian banking sector efficiency and peeling technique factors that lead to inefficiencies that could reduce the bank's internal performance using Data Envelopment Analisys model (DEA). Research on the efficiency of banking techniques in Indonesia in 2000-2004 conducted using secondary data analysis including balance sheets and income statements of banks in Indonesia 12, the number of bank offices, and the number of bank employees in 2000 until 2004. Results of DEA analysis for the entire group decreased efficiency of banks during the crisis, except Bank Mandiri. This means that Bank Mandiri has the best performance compared to other banks. Inefficiency generally caused by using less than optimal inputs to produce output. Inputs that have not been completely allocated are assets and labor are not on optimizing the range below 50 percent. To produce the maximum efficiency, the bank must increase the use of its inputs to 100 percent.

Pengembangan Nasionalisme Generasi Muda di Era Globalisasi
S Widiyono
2019· POPULIKA66doi:10.37631/populika.v7i1.24

The sense of nationalism is very important for the young generation of Indonesia to be able to become a developed nation, a modern nation, a nation that is safe, and peaceful, just and prosperous in the midst of globalization that increasingly challenges the Indonesian state. As a nation and country in the midst of other nations in the world, it requires a high nationalism identity of citizens, especially among the young generation of Indonesia. The spirit of nationalism is still needed by the existence of the Indonesian nation and state. High nationalism from citizens or the younger generation will make positive and best behavior for the nation and state. In the current era of globalization there are several trends of depletion of the spirit of nationalism among the younger generation. This can be seen from a number of benchmarks, namely the lack of appreciation of the younger generation of Indonesian native culture, patterns and lifestyles of Westernized teenagers, and so on. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to have an intensive and continuous movement in the world of education related to the planting of a sense of nationalism towards students from elementary to tertiary levels that must be done by teachers and lecturers by respecting and being proud of indigenous Indonesian culture. In this paper the author tries to explain the circumstances and facts about the development of nationalism through library studies.
